Integration is a solved problem that nobody has solved

Every serious organisation runs somewhere between forty and four hundred systems. A defense program office runs its logistics in one stack, its contracts in another, its personnel security in a third, and its sensor take in a fourth. A hospital network runs an electronic health record that does not speak to its imaging archive, which does not speak to its revenue cycle. A shipyard runs hull design in one tool, procurement in another, and workforce scheduling in a third that nobody has touched since it was installed.

The connective tissue between them has always been a project. Scope it, buy the connector, map the fields, get the credentials issued, build the error handling, test it, certify it, maintain it forever. Weeks for something simple. Months for anything that crosses a security boundary. The cost is not the software. The cost is that the work is done by hand, one pair at a time, and it decays the moment either side ships a change.

A Sling writes the adapter at the moment it is needed

Goliath does not ship a connector library. A Sling is dispatched at the system boundary and performs adapter synthesis: it reads whatever the system exposes, an OpenAPI document, a WSDL, a GraphQL schema, an ODBC catalogue, an HL7 interface specification, an X12 implementation guide, a serial protocol manual, a file drop with no documentation at all, and it composes the client for that system on the spot.

Where documentation does not exist, the Sling performs protocol inference: it probes the interface within its authority envelope, observes the shape of the responses, and builds a working model of the contract. Where the system predates the idea of an API, the Sling drives it the way an operator would, through the same terminal, form or file that a human uses, and treats that as the interface.

Schema reconciliation runs across the join. Two systems rarely agree on what a customer, a part, a patient or a hull section is. The Sling builds the mapping from both sides, resolves the conflicts it can prove, and escalates the ones it cannot rather than guessing. A field that cannot be reconciled is surfaced, not silently dropped.

APIs, tokens, keys and secrets, held under custody

Connectivity is a credential problem before it is an engineering problem. Slings authenticate with OAuth 2.0 flows, mutual TLS, signed JWTs, SAML assertions, SCIM provisioning, API keys, HMAC signatures, client certificates, SSH keys, service accounts, and the shared secrets that older systems still run on.

Every credential is held in sealed custody, scoped to the narrowest authority that completes the task, bound to a single Sling and a single purpose, rotated on a schedule, and revocable in one action. A Sling can use a secret. A Sling cannot read a secret back, print one, log one, or carry one outside its tether. Credentials that a customer has not explicitly issued are credentials Goliath does not hold.

Every call the fleet makes against a foreign system is recorded: which Sling, under which authority, against which endpoint, with which result. The audit trail is the product, not a feature of it.

The integration tier is the thing being replaced

Integration platforms exist because writing the same adapter repeatedly is expensive. Celigo, MuleSoft Anypoint, Boomi, Workato, Jitterbit, Informatica, SnapLogic, TIBCO BusinessWorks, IBM App Connect, Zapier, Tray.ai, Make, Oracle Integration Cloud, SAP Integration Suite and Azure Logic Apps all sell the same underlying thing: a library of prebuilt connectors and a place to draw the lines between them.

That model has a hard ceiling. A connector exists only if the vendor built it. It covers only the endpoints the vendor prioritised. It breaks when either side ships a change, and the fix is a support ticket against a roadmap you do not control. The pricing is per connection, so the architecture you can afford is the architecture the licence permits.

Adapter synthesis removes the library. There is no catalogue to be absent from, no connector to wait for, and no per connection tax on the shape of the integration. The question stops being whether a connector exists and becomes whether the credential has been issued.

Weeks to seconds

The measurement that matters is handshake time: the interval between a Sling being pointed at a system it has never touched and that system returning correct, reconciled data into the fleet. The target is seconds, and the reason it can be seconds is that nothing in the path is waiting on a human.

Scale follows from the same property. Two hundred Slings working in parallel do not connect systems one pair at a time. A fleet dispatched across an estate maps the whole estate at once, and the connection graph is built as a single operation rather than as a sequence of projects.
